Part 9.1

Samuel

Hannah prays for a child and gives birth to Samuel, whom she dedicates to God. God calls Samuel, marking him as a prophet.

Part 9.2

The lost ark

Israel loses the Ark to the Philistines, who suffer for possessing it. The Ark returns. Samuel leads Israel in repentance and defeats the Philistines.

Part 9.3

A King is chosen

Israel demands a king; God warns them but grants their request. Saul is chosen, anointed by Samuel, and confirmed as king through divine signs.

Part 9.4

Disobedient Saul

Saul defeats the Ammonites, is confirmed as king, disobeys God’s commands twice, and is rejected by God, with David chosen as his future replacement.

Part 9.5

David

God rejects Saul for sparing Amalekite king; Samuel anoints David. David defeats Goliath, gains fame, and forms a close bond with Saul’s son Jonathan.

Part 9.6

David and Jonathan

Saul grows jealous of David’s success and popularity. He repeatedly tries to kill him. Jonathan protects David, affirming their deep friendship and loyalty despite Saul’s anger.

Part 9.7

Saul and David

David flees from Saul, seeking refuge with priests and in enemy territory. Saul kills the priests for helping David. Twice, David spares Saul’s life.

Psalms

Psalms about God’s protection, deliverance, faithfulness, justice, praise, refuge in trouble, trust amid fear, and crying out to God in suffering and persecution.

Part 9.9

David and Abigail

David spares foolish Nabal; Abigail wisely intervenes and later becomes David’s wife. David again spares Saul, then seeks refuge with the Philistines to avoid Saul.

Part 9.10

Saul’s death

.Saul consults a medium; Samuel’s spirit foretells his death. Israel is defeated by the Philistines, and Saul dies in battle with his sons.
